Actuarial Analyst

Position requires Bachelors Degree in Math, Computer Science or related degree (Economics). Prefer candidate to be in the process of pursuing actuarial exams with 1-3 years work experience in primary, reinsurance or consulting capacity. Strong spreadsheet skills are necessary (Lotus 1-2-3 or Excel) with ability to manipulate and program macros. Aptitude in developing actuarial models and working with database packages and/or various software is preferred. Attention to detail and organization skills are a must.

Secondary duties may include: 1. analysis of Crop and Livestock insurance; 2. assisting in the preparation of financial reports; 3. assessing catastrophe exposure; 4. reviewing reinsurance treaty experience; and, 5. preparing diverse research reports.

Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree and four actuarial exams; or, master's degree in actuarial science or statistics. Experience: three years of relevant experience, which may include ratemaking and rate filing in any line of insurance, personal or commercial. Computer competence: fluency in Microsoft Office products, especially Access, Excel, and Word, is mandatory. Knowledge of Oracle database is an advantage. Special skills: candidates will be requested to provide an example of technical writing.

They will provide all levels of support for customer specification development including planning, analysis, and testing. They will provide insurance and business analytical support to internal and external task forces and committees as well as being an Actuarial Services Data Management representative to other divisions. They will also provide project and task leadership including assistance and guidance to teammates at all levels for operational as well as project activities. The selected candidate will be encouraged to pursue an IDMA professional designation (CIDM for Consultants and AIDM for Business Analysts).

Qualifications:
3 - 5 years working as a Business Analyst / Consultant. A college degree or commensurate experience is required. Noted achievements supporting business and automation abilities must be documented. Position requires proficiency in business analysis, automation analysis, and problem solving with an emphasis on Commercial Lines Insurance. Ability to understand the business context and system and procedural impacts of requests for products and services is required. Understanding of Field and Home Office workflows and bureau requirements is a plus. A broad knowledge of insurance systems and how data flows through organizations is helpful. Strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to lead projects through all project phases, as well as strong teamwork skills are essential. A willingness to handle any task with a just-do-it attitude is vital, along with the ability to work independently, mentor / train others, and be self-motivated.

Job Duties:
Responsibilities will include managing a staff of 9 actuarial students and pricing analysts; working with State Management and the Research Department to continue development and maintenance of our AARP products for personal auto insurance; delivering the agreed upon rate plan by managing the individual state rate approval process (which consists of developing rate level indications, presenting indications and recommendations, discusssing those findings and reaching consensus with State Management, Business Unit Director, AARP and their consulting actuary, preparing state insurance department filings, and responding to any questions on those filings). Additional responsibilities include monitoring trends, analyzing both new and existing rating variables, and supporting new product development.

Qualifications: BS/BA degree, preferably in a quantitative discipline. Minimum of 3-5 years actuarial experience (personal auto experience preferred). Strong communication/presentation skills. Completion of 7+ actuarial exams preferred. Knowledge of PC software packages such as Excel and Word. Knowledge of corporate resources, personal auto coverages, rating algorithms. Ability to manage/direct work for a staff of nine analysts. Job Grade and salary will be dependent on exam level and experience.
