Reinsurance Project Analyst

West Coast Life has an opportunity for a Reinsurance Project Analyst, reporting to the Reinsurance Mgr.

Primary Responsibilities
* Review, calculate and cede (bill and collect) all WCL reinsured death claims.
* Work closely with other WCL departments as well as Protective's claims staff.
* Follow up with reinsurers for collection purposes.
* Manage/maintain WCL death claim database on MS Access.
* Monthly, quarterly and annual reporting.

Other Responsibilities
* Create, maintain and test new and existing business plans in Access database.
* Assist in the reinsurance treaty (written contracts) and amendments process.
* Handle assumed reinsurance accounting and claims.
* Process journal entries.
* Reconcile certain general ledger accounts.
* Assist in year end statement reporting.
* Creation and maintenance of Access databases, possibly Lotus Notes databases also.
* Special projects as assigned by the Reinsurance Manager.

Knowledge and Skills Required
* Strong oral and written communication, math.
* Detail oriented, good organization, innovative and independent thinker.
* Ability to handle multiple tasks.
* Willingness and ability to work overtime without being told in order to complete tasks and meet deadlines.
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, and strong skills in Excel and Access.
* Knowledge of Lotus Notes also helpful.
* Mainframe experience, TSO, and JCL (job control language) helpful.
* Basic knowledge of life insurance and/or reinsurance concepts or willingness to learn.
* Light programming or macro knowledge helpful.
* College degree preferred.

Financial Analyst

Insurer Payables Supervisor

The role of the Insurer Payables Supervisor is to ensure that payments are made to insurance carriers and brokerage companies in a professional and timely and accurate manner and to provide supervision and support to Insurer Payable Coordinators.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities include:
* Responsible for the Insurer Payables activities associated with the payment of at least two (2) large and several small and miscellaneous carriers at the direction of the Insurer Payables Manager.
* Verifies the payment of carriers is completed in a timely manner and distributes report of non-compliance to Insurance Accounting Manager and Controller on a monthly basis
* Identifies and solves problem issues, informing Manager as warranted
* Collaborate with Accounts Receivable, Collections, and Account Executives to manage payments to carriers with respect to outstanding receivable balances.
* Research account discrepancies and collaborate with Accounting Manager, other Accounting staff, and Account Executives to ensure accurate record keeping and fulfillment of responsibilities to carriers.
* Submits monthly status report of payable accounts to Accounting Manager and Controller.
* Proactively communicates in timely and effective fashion with internal and external customers and with Accounting management, and perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications include:
* Excellent time management, organizational, oral and written communication skills.
* Management of employees, including appropriate use of remedial action to resolve problems.
* Effective delegation to and training of employees.
* Recognition of both internal and external customer base.
* Associates Degree in Accounting or equivalent experience.
* Minimum of 2 years experience in accounts payable.
