Reinsurance Project Analyst

West Coast Life has an opportunity for a Reinsurance Project Analyst, reporting to the Reinsurance Mgr.

Primary Responsibilities
* Review, calculate and cede (bill and collect) all WCL reinsured death claims.
* Work closely with other WCL departments as well as Protective's claims staff.
* Follow up with reinsurers for collection purposes.
* Manage/maintain WCL death claim database on MS Access.
* Monthly, quarterly and annual reporting.

Other Responsibilities
* Create, maintain and test new and existing business plans in Access database.
* Assist in the reinsurance treaty (written contracts) and amendments process.
* Handle assumed reinsurance accounting and claims.
* Process journal entries.
* Reconcile certain general ledger accounts.
* Assist in year end statement reporting.
* Creation and maintenance of Access databases, possibly Lotus Notes databases also.
* Special projects as assigned by the Reinsurance Manager.

Knowledge and Skills Required
* Strong oral and written communication, math.
* Detail oriented, good organization, innovative and independent thinker.
* Ability to handle multiple tasks.
* Willingness and ability to work overtime without being told in order to complete tasks and meet deadlines.
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, and strong skills in Excel and Access.
* Knowledge of Lotus Notes also helpful.
* Mainframe experience, TSO, and JCL (job control language) helpful.
* Basic knowledge of life insurance and/or reinsurance concepts or willingness to learn.
* Light programming or macro knowledge helpful.
* College degree preferred.

Claims Consultant

Individual will work as part of the individual reinsurance claim team, and be primarily responsible for analyzing, reviewing and evaluating contestable and incontestable individual life and waiver of premium claims to ensure appropriate contractual reinsurance liabilities. Additional responsibilities include:
* Act as a technical and professional resource for clients in the areas of adjudication for death, waiver of premium and accelerated benefit claims.
* Provide opinions, recommendations and reinsurance claim decisions on claim referrals from internal and external clients.
* Responsible for review and approval of reinsurance life claims over the disbursement authority of the Reinsurance Claim Representatives.
* Assist, support and participate in team and individual projects related to claim technical needs for reinsurance.
* Provide direction on complex claims for both internal and external clients.
* External clients include individual life insurance companies throughout the United States (Claim and Reinsurance Administrative Departments.) Internal clients include the reinsurance claim staff, underwriting and administrative departments.
* Perform client claim audits
* Limited Travel required

Qualifications:
* College degree or equivalent work experience
* 5 - 10 yrs. claims analysis and adjudication experience on individual life and disability claims
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Excellent analytical ability
* Proven ability to work as part of a team
* Proven ability to work independently and to effectively organize and prioritize workload
* LOMA, ICA Coursework
* Knowledge of claims paying systems

General & Cologne Life Re is the North American life and health reinsurance arm of the worldwide General & Cologne Re Group. Operationally, the company reports to General Ge, although it is 100% owned by Cologne Re (KR) in Cologne, Germany. Location is Stamford, CT.

The Individual Health Valuation Actuary reports to the head of the Individual Health Division and is responsible for establishing both active life and claim reserves that include statutory reserves, GAAP reserves and tax reserves. The primary product lines being reinsured are long term care, Medicare supplement and disability income. At least 7 years experience with reserving techniques required. FSA required.

General Reinsurance, the nation's largest Property/Casualty reinsurer has an excellent opportunity for an Accident & Health Claim Executive at its Stamford, Ct. Home Office.

Position Requirements:
* Experienced and knowledgeable in managed care practices, case management and provider networks.
* Experience in reserving of A&H business. Experience/knowledge of medical stop loss, disability, and worker's compensation.
* Knowledge of market resources available for large case management, PPO networks, specialty networks, disease management, and medical review of claims.
