Reinsurance Project Analyst

West Coast Life has an opportunity for a Reinsurance Project Analyst, reporting to the Reinsurance Mgr.

Primary Responsibilities
* Review, calculate and cede (bill and collect) all WCL reinsured death claims.
* Work closely with other WCL departments as well as Protective's claims staff.
* Follow up with reinsurers for collection purposes.
* Manage/maintain WCL death claim database on MS Access.
* Monthly, quarterly and annual reporting.

Other Responsibilities
* Create, maintain and test new and existing business plans in Access database.
* Assist in the reinsurance treaty (written contracts) and amendments process.
* Handle assumed reinsurance accounting and claims.
* Process journal entries.
* Reconcile certain general ledger accounts.
* Assist in year end statement reporting.
* Creation and maintenance of Access databases, possibly Lotus Notes databases also.
* Special projects as assigned by the Reinsurance Manager.

Knowledge and Skills Required
* Strong oral and written communication, math.
* Detail oriented, good organization, innovative and independent thinker.
* Ability to handle multiple tasks.
* Willingness and ability to work overtime without being told in order to complete tasks and meet deadlines.
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, and strong skills in Excel and Access.
* Knowledge of Lotus Notes also helpful.
* Mainframe experience, TSO, and JCL (job control language) helpful.
* Basic knowledge of life insurance and/or reinsurance concepts or willingness to learn.
* Light programming or macro knowledge helpful.
* College degree preferred.

Client Services Associate

West Coast Life has an opportunity for a Client Services Associate reporting to the Manager of Universal Life and Annuities Administration.
Job Description: Answers a wide variety of customer questions by telephone and letter on Universal Life and Annuity contracts. It involves heavy phone work communicating policy information to our policyholders and agents and may occasionally require the handling of irate or demanding callers. In this position the individual will process policy changes, loans, surrenders, additions and/or deletions, and modifications to contracts via on-line transactions. Most of these changes involve manual calculations or coded input and are the most complex or exceptional changes processed in the department. Other responsibilities include summarizing cash flows to give payment, withdrawal and loan histories: calculating premiums needed to support in-force coverage, either manually, or by using LifeComm or a personal computer proposal system; reconciliation of Check-O-Matic and Suspense account balances. The position requires knowledge of the various policy contracts and product specifications, as well as operation of our LifeComm system. Other duties will include preparing paperwork to back-up various transactions and covering for other team members in their absence.

Knowledge and Skills Required:
1. Two years of college or equivalent work experience, particularly in a Customer Service environment.
2. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. You must enjoy working with customers on the phone.
3. Basic typing and some accounting skills are helpful.
4. LOMA 1 and 2 (insurance industry exams) may be taken during the training period.

Job Conditions: This position requires an individual who has strong communication skills and can present a professional image when dealing with our field agents (and demanding people) on the phone. Requires the ability to function under pressure and deal with a continually changing workflow. The individual in this position must be a self-starter who enjoys dealing with people and has the interpersonal skills to function in a team environment. The individual must be articulate, organized, efficient and able to perform the job with a sense of urgency. Furthermore, must be able to make unsupervised decisions. Occasional overtime may be required.
